The Association of Nigerian Authors(ANA), Abuja Chapter, has announced that this April will be a literary combo of Reading and Writers Dialogue, book launch, and the 70th birthday celebration of the guest author, Dr Wale Okediran.
This special event is scheduled to hold on April 19, 2025 at the Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre, Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja.
ANA Abuja will engage this distinguished medical practitioner, illustrious ambassador of Abuja chapter, a globe trotting prolific writer, a respected political leader, and a man with profound records of service to humanity.
A multi-talented and award winning renaissance man with exemplary pedigree, Dr. Wale Okediran studied medicine at the University of Ife, had a successful practice in the profession before dabbling into politics. As an elected member of the House of Representatives, where he helped to enact laws necessary for national development, our guest author maintained a clean profile in a murky political environment.
During his very active engagement in the promotion of literature, he produced 14 critically acclaimed books which include Tenants of The House adapted into a film; and Halima, a government approved text for secondary school education in Nigeria.
After successful stents as chapter chairman and later president of ANA, Dr Wale Okediran, was elevated to a continental leadership responsibility as the Secretary General of Pan-African Writers Association (PAWA), a position he still holds. He created one of Africa’s most successful residency programs called the Ebedi International Writers Residency more than ten years ago.
As he clocks 70, his book Medicine and Literature Without Borders will be presented to the public. Edited by a past ANA President, Mallam Denja Abdullahi and Stephen Kekeghe, its foreword is written by Prof. Toyin Falola.
This event will feature panel discussions, literary performances, prizes and award presentation, and other activities.
