Call to Action
The University of Ibadan’s Heritage Park and Gardens, a symbol of the institution’s rich history and legacy, has been callously destroyed. This sacred space, developed to commemorate UI’s 60th anniversary, held immense sentimental value and emotional significance.
The clandestine demolition of this iconic landmark at 3.30 am is a damning indictment of the university’s administration, led by the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor, and the Senate. Their collective failure to preserve and protect this cherished heritage site raises serious questions about their commitment to the university’s values and traditions.
Enlightenment is not merely about titles, positions, or credentials; it’s about wisdom, foresight, and a deep understanding of the consequences of one’s actions. The destruction of the Heritage Park and Gardens is a stark reminder that true enlightenment is sorely lacking in the university’s leadership.
Let us mourn the loss of this irreplaceable piece of history and hope that those responsible will reflect on the gravity of their actions. We are hoping that the students and faculty will rise up to demand reversal.
