The desire of every professional or businessman is to be likeable. The reality of succeeding in the world today lies in being likable. No matter how skillful or talented you are, if you are not likeable, you may not go far. Some individuals miss out on projects or promotions just because a group of people who make decisions just don’t like them.

The work culture has shown that your “certificate” is not enough. Anyone can earn the paper qualification but someone needs to bring in the ‘x factor.’ This is one of the reasons why likeability is important. Personality plays a major role in likeability. While some attributes are innate, others can be cultivated over time. Here are some of the attributes that make a person likeable:

Positive Energy

You bring on a smile every time someone sees you. You don’t speak ill about anyone. Even if you want to express your displeasure, you measure it and wait for the right moment- choosing your words carefully. You avoid gossip. You’d rather be civil than hateful.

Self Respect

You don’t seek favours everytime. You like to solve your own problems. You value your time and encourage others to do the same.

Humility

You don’t look or talk down on people. You seek an opportunity to serve others rather than waiting to be served.

Thankful

You express gratitude for every act of kindness. You try to repay kindness or generosity by replicating such acts of kindness.

Sense of Humour

You take humour kindly. You are also able to laugh at your silly self. You are not too sensitive to jokes. And you’re careful not to joke with people who don’t understand your cultural context.

Kindness

A kind person has a great deal of empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand someone else’s emotions but also respond to them in a compassionate way. People who possess empathy are often seen as attractive because they have an innate ability to connect with others on a deeper level. They are able to listen actively, provide emotional support, and offer practical solutions when needed. When you show empathy towards others, it demonstrates that you care about their well-being and are willing to go out of your way to help them.

Calmness

You don’t rush to get things done. You take your time to get things fixed and in time too. You are reliable when things get complicated. With the care of a bomb technician, you take on difficult tasks without complaining. You don’t make decisions without carefully considering others’ perspectives and feelings.

Non-judgmental

You don’t let someone’s status, skin color, or religion stop you from getting to know them. You are open-minded and easy to talk to.You might not agree with everyone’s beliefs or opinions, but it doesn’t stop you from respecting them.

Good Manners

Good manners can help you build strong relationships. They can make you more approachable and trustworthy.

Honesty

People who have integrity are more likely to be trusted and perhaps likeable in the community of people of like minds. Integrity is one of the most rare qualities in people today as many are often thinking of what they can earn illegitimately outside their usual income. You are absolutely likeable when you are not greedy.
