The President, Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria, Emmanuel Onuorah has raised alarm in the ongoing fuel crisis in Nigeria and its impact on prices of staples including bread.
He observed that in spite of government intervention, the cost of purchase for bread ingredients are becoming out of reach for the average income earner.
Further, he warned: “The prices of bread will keep spiking because the other ingredients that enable you to produce bread are all going up.”
It has been reported that the price of flour has increased by N67,000 naira as against the last ten years’ price of N8,000.
At the moment, the average cost of a loaf of bread is N1500 in Nigeria while croissant costs over N3,000 per piece.
