The German Cultural Centre, Goethe Institut in Lagos, Nigeria is set to screen a 2021 movie titled “Precious Ivie” by Sarah Blaßkiewwitz this Thursday, March 14.
The screening is the opening of the institute’s film season called “BE Longing“.
Scheduled to hold at the institute’s facility on Victoria Island, the screening will draw movie buffs in Lagos to watch and converse on the black themes embedded in the movie.
The synopsis reads: Ivie’s view of herself begins to waver when her half-sister suddenly shows up and not only talks about the upcoming funeral of their father in Senegal, but above all sharpens Ivie’s awareness of the everyday racism to which she is exposed as an Afro-German. An impressive debut about self-discovery and diversity.
Other movies at the film season BE Longing will feature mainly perspectives of People of Colour living in Germany.
