- Becomes Nollywood’s Highest Grossing Movie
A Tribe Called Judah – a 2023 Nigerian film produced by Funke Akindele- has made a name for itself as the highest grossing movie yet from Nollywood. Starring Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, Olumide Oworu, Genoveva Umeh, Nse Ikpe Etim, Juliana Olayode, Uzor Arukwe, Fathia Balogun, Yvonne Jegede and many others, the film is one of the most trumpeted productions during the yuletide period.
Released to the cinema nationwide on 15 December 15, 2023, the movie is dedicated to Akindele’s late mother, who partially influenced the story.
This action comedy recounts a planned family heist to rob a luxury furniture store in a mall but went sour upon finding armed robbers already inside when they arrived.
The big screen feature distributed by Film One has brought 285,410 in admissions and N1.06 billion in gross earnings.
Akindele has fast become the box office queen since 2020 when her Omo Ghetto movie grossed N636m. She has produced three of the highest grossing Nollywood movies at the box office. In 2022, her movie ‘Battle on Buka Street’ hit ₦668M+ at the box office. This year, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ becomes the highest grossing Nollywood movie having surpassed N1bn in ticket sales.
