4 Practices that Cause Heat Wave

Climate change is real, and it will continue to accelerate. The threat of global warming is tied to our survival. Here are some of the human activities that cause climate change — and some of the necessities that climate change has impacted.

  • Tree Cutting

Cutting down forests to create farms or pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions, since trees, when they are cut, release the carbon they have been storing. Since forests absorb carbon dioxide, destroying them also limits nature’s ability to keep emissions out of the atmosphere.

Trees help to regulate the climate, absorbing the atmosphere’s CO2. Estimates vary, but a mature tree can absorb up to 21 kg of CO2 each year. In that same amount of time, a hectare of forest can offset the CO2 produced by the average car’s annual mileage.

The problem is, when they’re cut down, the carbon that trees have absorbed is released back into the atmosphere

  • Keeping Electronic Devices on

Simply turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer, when you’re not using them, will save you thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

  • Use of Coal Pot

With four in 10 Nigerians living below $2 (£1.5) a day, families often do not have the financial resources to pay for a clean stove and for the fuel or power to run it.

  • Use of Power Generators

Many Nigerian homes depend on generators, partly or wholly, for energy supply.
