Ten Ways to Celebrate Women Everyday

Although March 8 is set aside globally to mark the International Women’s Day, more women are beginning to think that the celebration should be a norm. While it is great to take incredible pictures and post on social media, many women hide beneath their smiles tales of spousal abuse, gender discrimination in the workplace and sexism.

To create a safe environment for women to thrive as mothers, wives, singles, sisters, daughters and nieces, here are five ways that the women in our lives can feel appreciated everyday:

  • Let them Speak

Whether you are in a board or town hall meeting or a conference for experts and professionals, always make a conscious effort to allow women to speak. They have been so used to being silenced that you may need to call on them to speak sometimes.

  • Give Way To Female Drivers

Most male drivers hate it when female drivers get ahead of them in traffic. Rather than being combative with female drivers, give way in traffic even if their cars do not read “Baby on Board.” There may be babies waiting at home.

  • Mentor Female Entrepreneurs

There is a growing number of female entrepreneurs in Africa. Many of them are products of excellent educational background, good upbringing and peer nurturing. Be the man that encourages women who venture into businesses for the first time.

  • Never Demand for Sexual Favours

When a woman has worked hard towards her career goals and aspirations, do not stop her with your demand for sexual favours. There are women who would do this for a fee. Don’t make a sl#t out of every woman.

  • Open Doors

Open the car doors, house door, kitchen door, gates and except the toilet door for a woman to come through. Some feminists think that chivalry is a treatment of women as weaker vessels. It is good manners to open doors and women should also do the same for men except if the doors are heavy.

  • Give Up Your Seat

It is a gentlemanly attribute to give up your seat for a woman in a public space. Many well-bred men would never drag a seat with a lady.

  • Wait with Her

Whether she is waiting for a cab or needs to see a doctor, it is a very kind thing to wait for a woman. Even where you are not physically present, make sure to call so they’d know that they are not alone.

  • Get Her Thoughtful Gifts

Many men who lack imagination complain gravely about giving women gifts. A gift does not need to cost a lot. Just make sure it is nice and unexpected. Make a paper boat or make a drawing of her and she’d be happy to know you have a playful soul.

  • Share Interested Articles

When you read something interesting or educative online, share it with a female friend, colleague or associate. Stop sharing your nude pictures or dirty, demeaning jokes about women with women.

  • Avoid Gossip About Women

It is a big turn off when men engage in malicious gossip on a woman, especially their ex(es). Don’t let your ex lure you into an internet fight. Accord every woman some measure of respect and don’t lose your manners just because they fail to respect you.
