The Nigerian singer-songwriter, Tems has been nominated for ‘Video Director of the Year’ and we’re stoked. Tems has showcased her talents in front of and behind the camera, crafting mesmerising music videos for tracks like “Me & U” and her later single “Love Me JeJe,” which have garnered widespread acclaim from fans since their release.
As we anticipate black culture’s biggest night on Sunday, June 30, we’re celebrating Tems’ contributions to the visual landscape of music, reflecting on five of her most alluring visuals.
Remember to mark your calendars for the BET Experience, returning after five years on June 26. This week-long extravaganza promises star-studded performances, comedy shows, insightful panels, and engaging workshops—a true immersion into the heartbeat of cultural evolution.
Meanwhile Tems’ latest song “Love Me JeJe” from her debut studio album Born in the Wild, pays homage to her homeland and the song of the same name by fellow Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Sodimu, released in the late ’90s.
The visual, filmed at various locations across Lagos, was directed by the star. The video follows the songbird out and about, enjoying time with her friends at a karaoke bar, performing on a moving truck, and riding around the city’s bustling streets.
Tems’ 2023 track “Me & U” marked the star’s first solo single since her 2021 EP If Orange Was a Place, placing herself in the songwriter’s and director’s chair.
The visual was shot on the Southern European island of Malta and featured several sultry dance moments from the singer.
