- D General Bitters Pledges Support for the deceased’s family
The management team of the Afrobeats singer and rapper, Mohbad has promised to continue the battle for the deceased’s unpaid royalties. In a press release on the singer’s social media handles, it was revealed that Mohbad had initiated a legal procedure with his former record label, Marlian Records seeking to affirm his intellectual rights to his music which had been produced within the contractual agreement between him and the label.
Before his passing, Mohbad was in court to retrieve the majority of his songs and unpaid royalties which were wrongfully held by Marlian music. We will fight to retrieve his catalog and unpaid royalties so that through these, those he left behind, especially his son Liam Imole will be provided for. We want #justiceforMohbad and we will appreciate all the support we can get in this fight to retrieve his catalog from Marlian music as this is the justice that Mohbad was working towards,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, there are plans to hold a candlelight service as a tribute to the deceased artist at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos. This was disclosed in a video that surfaced on Twitter earlier today by a brand representative of D’ General Bitters. The alcoholic brand is yet to publish a condolence message or a formal announcement of this proposed candlelight service due to the on-going outrage fuelled by fresh revelations about the circumstances that led to the poor health and eventually, death of Mohbad.
Following the outrage that has trailed Mohbad’s death, a termination letter drafted for the artist by Clipeum Partners has surfaced online. With effect from October 7, 2022, the letter, amongst other things, contained a demand for:
The logs and records of the digital sales of all the songs by our client released and utilised during this period (2019 till date) and payment of the monetary value in respect thereof due to our client within 7 (seven) days of your receipt of this letter.
“The immediate handover of our client’s entire catalogue of songs released prior and during the arrangement with you.”

Many fans on social media have been calling for the ban of Marlian music on the allegation of being culpable in the torturous life that Mohbad lived.
Earlier today, the Marlian Records had released a condolence message to the public with a promise to cooperate with the Nigeria police on the investigation into the death of Mohbad.
The press release signed by A Fashola aka Naira Marley described the late singer and rapper as an “exceptional talent.”
“Mohbad is an incredible street pop who contributed to the foundation of the Marlian music. Despite his departure last year, we continually championed his talent. No family is perfect; families have disagreements but no harm whatsoever was wished on Mohbad. So many things left unsaid but the love was always there. This tragedy is not only a loss for us but to everyone you touched musically around the world.
“As we share our condolences to the late Mohbad, we would like to echo a call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. We’re unhappy and unsettled with everything we witnessed since Tuesday the September 12th. We owe it to Mohbad to assist with uncovering any foul play or injustice. Our brother deserved a better send off, it saddens us that we couldn’t assist with providing a befitting burial. We will continue our efforts to reach out to the family,” it read in parts.
Reacting to the notion of ‘injustice’ expressed by the music label, the fans of Mohbad online were incensed by the message as more videos of Mohbad’s cries for help have surfaced online.
Mohbad’s death is still the hottest trend on Twitter since the sad news broke out last Tuesday.
